Can I book a ticket for my pet?

This article is for Trainline account holders. If you would like to create an account, click here.

We now sell pet tickets for French SNCF trains, but we do not yet sell tickets for any other rail operators at this time.
To book pet tickets on SNCF trains, simply add your pet as a passenger by clicking on the little paw prints (🐾) in the 'Add Passenger' window. Indicate whether your pet weighs more or less than 6 kg (13 lb) so we can assign the right type of ticket.
At this moment, it's only possible to book pet tickets:
  • On our website (the feature isn't yet available on our mobile apps)
  • for SNCF trains (we can’t offer them for other rail operators yet)
  • while you're signed into your Trainline Europe account.
After this, you will just need to select and include your pet as a passenger while making your reservation and see that they have been assigned a ticket.
Important: for SNCF trains, animal tickets can only be withdrawn from a self-service machine in France. They are not available as e-tickets. Please click here to find out how to print tickets from a machine in a few quick steps.

I am traveling with another rail operator.

Please see the information below if you wish to bring a pet on your journey with another rail operator. Any tickets for pets with rail operators besides SNCF must be purchased directly from the rail operator and cannot be purchased on our website.

Guide and assistance dogs with proper paperwork normally travel free of charge, however you must consult the appropriate rail carrier to confirm this.

Eurostar

Except for registered guide dogs, assistance dogs, or emotional support dogs, there are absolutely no animals allowed on Eurostar trains. You cannot buy a ticket for your pet on Eurostar trains. Please consult this website to find an alternative method to transport your pet across the channel.

Large dogs which are not being transported in a closed cage or carrier must wear a muzzle and are required to be kept on a leash at all times while on board the train. If you do not follow this procedure, you may be asked to leave.

For long distance journeys, you are required to purchase a half-price ticket for your large dog. For regional journeys, you will need to buy a full-price adult fare ticket for your dog. For cross-border journeys, you are required to buy a child’s second-class ticket for your dog.

Seats cannot be reserved for dogs on Deutsche Bahn trains and they do not issue mobile e-tickets for pets. They will send the ticket to you by post, or you can buy it directly at the train station.
